I have always been intrigued by seashores, from my earliest memories of English, Irish, Welsh and European beaches to later experiences of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans bordering Canada, the U.S. and Central and South America. My preference is for shorelines that are somewhat remote – certainly not highly populated by sunbathers and swimmers.

This competition promotes the manipulation of photograph(s) in both in-camera and post processing for artistic purposes to create a fictional or conceptual image or photographic art.
For the purposes of balancing out the judging of this competition, you are asked to submit your images into one or more of the following themes:
Any subject or topic is acceptable in this competition provided that the original captured image is the work of the photographer.
The entrant must have captured the source images and they must hold the copyright for the source images. The entrant must have taken all components of the final image.
Images may not be constructed entirely within a computer. Non-creative images are not eligible for this category.

For this year’s competition, we have introduced some new themes to challenge and stretch your photography skills and abilities.
For this competition, CAPA is using the definition of Monochrome as defined by the Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique’s (FIAP) and is as follows:
A black and white work fitting from the very dark grey (black) to the very clear grey (white), is a monochrome work with the various shades of grey.
A black and white work toned entirely in a single colour, will remain a monochrome work able to stand in the black and white category.
On the other hand, a black and white work modified by a partial toning or by the addition of one colour becomes a colour work (polychrome) to stand in the colour category.
CAPA has provided further clarification on the FIAP monochrome definition with the following:
A monochromatic color scheme uses the grayscale as the primary hue (colour) with a range of black shades (darker) and tints (lighter) of the grayscale.
A ‘duo-toned’ image is not considered a monochromatic colour scheme because it consists of two or more hues which are not consistent with the primary hue.

The source image must have been made by the entrant. All images must be original and may not incorporate elements produced by anyone else. Original images must be altered only by the entrant. However artwork or computer graphics generated by the entrant may be incorporated if the original photographic content prevails.
Images that are created totally electronically with no photographic origin are prohibited from this competition. It is necessary that the image’s core content be identifiable. Non-manipulated images are not eligible for this competition and if submitted they will be disqualified.

The top 50 scored images from this competition will be included in the selection process for CAPA’s submission to the international Four Nations competition.
