Hans Arnold Receives MCAPA Award

The Canadian Association for Photographic Art takes great pleasure in awarding Hans Arnold the Maple Leaf Honour Award and designation.

Hans joined CAPA in 2010 and although he has not been affiliated with any club in Manitoba he has done many zoom and live presentations to clubs including The Manitoba Camera Club, Winnipeg South Photo Club, Brandon Camera Club, Portage Camera Club, Etobicoke Camera Club as well as various clubs in Arizona.

He has received recognition in many competitions and has received medals and merit awards in numerous CAPA competitions.

Hans has had a number of solo exhibitions throughout the country in varied sizes of print collections curated by affiliate galleries connected to contests he has entered.
In the past 16 years he has taught “The Art of Seeing” to young students in school divisions.

To date he has taught over 3,000 students how to see the world around them with a camera.

Laval Camera Club – 2025 September Update

Laval Camera Club – Launch of the 16th Season

On Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the Le Sorbier Community Center, the Laval Photo Club will launch its 16th season of activities for photography enthusiasts. Meetings will take place on Thursdays from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., from September 4, 2025, to April 23, 2026.

During these weekly meetings, the Laval Photo Club offers the citizens of Laval and the surrounding area presentations and training sessions by top-notch photographers, organizes activities, workshops, and outings to practice the photographic techniques presented by the speakers, and organizes competitions and thematic judging sessions to develop the creativity of Club members and encourage exchanges among amateur photographers.

Black-and-white photography has a timeless appeal—and you can explore it with the smartphone you already use every day. This introductory presentation will explore how to see in tones, use light, and make simple edits with in-phone editing tools—turning everyday snapshots into expressive photographs. No technical background required—just an interest in seeing the world a little differently and a willingness to play.

 

Creative In-Camera Techniques

Learn about techniques to make ordinary subjects extraordinary photographs. The techniques include intentional camera movement and multiple exposure. These techniques require using manual control settings.

New Westminster Photography Club – 2025 September Upcoming Event

New Westminster Photography Club at New West’s Riverfest.

Riverfest, inspired by BC’s Fraser River, celebrates BC Rivers Day and World Rivers Day through three day even organized by the Fraser River Discovery Centre (FRDC).

The New Westminster Photography Club is supporting the event by providing a Smartphone Photography Workshop. Learn how to make the most of your smartphone camera’s tools and capabilities. You’ll practice “seeing” light and explore basic composition tools.

Develop new skills and confidence to create photographs you’ll enjoy with the best “camera” you have – the one that is always with you. This smartphone photography workshop will involve a presentation and a photo walk with coaches.

The session takes place on Saturday September 20th from 2:00 – 4: 00 pm at the Fraser River Discovery Centre at New Westminster Quay. There is no charge to attend, register by visiting the FRDC website – Smartphone Photography Workshop.

Sept. 2025 Judging Program News

Basic Training for New Judges Update

A dedicated group of volunteers has been working hard over the summer to get the updated judging course ready for release this fall.

The new program, Basic Training for New Judges, consists of two independent segments and will be available in both English and French:

• Part 1 – Introduction to Judging Course (No Prerequisite) This is a self-paced online learning course with nine modules. Lessons are a mixture of text-based reading and video presentations.

• Part 2 – Judging Practice Workshop (Prerequisite: Introduction to Judging Course) This is a 6 ½ hour instructor led workshop providing an opportunity to practice judging images from a selection of genres. Initially, the workshop will be delivered via video conference.

The course is almost ready. Within the next few weeks, a detailed course outline will be published along with course fees and an opportunity to pre-register. We are aiming for an October 2025 launch of the Introduction to Judging Course, with Judging Practice Workshops to follow in due course. Richmond Photo Club Society – 2025 September Update

Richmond Photo Club celebrates 45 years of existence.

This year, the club is hosting an event as part of Culture Days Canada. This will occur Tuesday September 23 2025, doors open at 6:30 pm, in the Arts Centre Annex. We will be holding an open club meeting where the public is invited to come and join us, for no charge, to experience what they can learn at a club meeting. On this day there will be a slide show depicting basic photography skills and how to improve your images; a group discussing camera gear; and a group demonstrating skills such as portraiture.

Balancing Innovation and Stability – CAPA’s Strategic Response to AI

As software companies continue to introduce AI-generative features on unpredictable timelines, we must maintain ongoing awareness while ensuring photographers receive the information necessary for competitive planning. Our new AI strategy  addresses these challenges and is available in both (English) and (French).

We encourage photographers and camera clubs to review this documents during the transition period leading up to the implementation date.  Between now and January 1, 2026, CAPA members and camera clubs are encouraged to review this document.

New AI Authentication Standard

Based on recent changes to Adobe Firefly AI algorithm, it has become necessary to implement a new AI Authentication Standard.  You are encouraged to review this document here (English) (French).
