My Country – My Pays Exhibit

from February 1 to February 15, 2022 at C Space King Edward, 1721 29th Avenue SW, Suite 125 Calgary.

C Space King Edward is open Monday through Friday from 8 am until 8 pm and Saturday from 8 am until 5 pm.

A reception will take place on Friday February 4th, 2022 at 6 pm. 

The Canadian Association for Photographic Art will proudly exhibit the work from individual and club winners and honourable mentions. These images identify our unique Canadian identity, including cultural heritage, geographical uniqueness, historical events or locations, iconic landscape or cityscape, roughness of Canadian landscape, seasonal uniqueness, nature, wildlife specific to Canada, architecture and images that show symbols of caring, confidence, courage, encouraging, helping others, nurturing, pride, respect, self-sacrifice and trust. 

Images include aircraft, animal, architecture, landscape, cityscape, objects, plants, sea mammals, trains, vehicles, vessels and each of Canada’s provinces and territories will be represented. These images exemplify the unique beauty of one or more themes from the perspective of either a resident or a visitor.

We are seeking volunteers to join our Competitions Team: 

  • Graphical artist who can assist us in updating and re-designing our current CAPA e-certificate template 

 

  • 2 to 3 volunteers to assist with the transposing photographer’s name, title of image and copy of image onto our e-certificates templates.  Individuals should have some experience using layers in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements 

 

  • An individual who has experience using the EntryWizard application and who would be interested in assisting with the setting up competitions as well as ‘re-consider-original-score’ process and ‘tie-breaking.’  Documentation is available which outlines how the EntryWizard application has been configured for our purposes.

Juneau Icefield Alaska with Paul Illsley

Join us on a photographic journey across Alaska’s remote and pristine glacier systems. Paul spent eight summers as an instructor of research imaging, remote sensing, and photogrammetry with the National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsored Juneau Icefield Research Program (JIRP). Paul’s talk will include images of his adventures as well as views of the beautiful pristine glacial landscape that Alaska is famous for.

CAPA Club Services Award 2021

Due to Covid 19 our club continues to meet online, however we were able to hold one field trip  outdoors. In September, during the Macro field trip at the gardens of Maria and Laszlo Podor, the CAPA Club Services awards for 2021 were presented to Darryl Robertson and Laszlo Podor for their many years of dedicated service to PGNS and the critical role they played in last year’s transition to a program entirely online. 

 

A Member of the Photographic Guild of Nova Scotia since 2007, Laszlo Podor has served as statistician from 2008-2011, vice-president from 2009-2011, president in 2011-2015, and is currently serving his third term (2020-2022) as President. During 2020-2021, he worked tirelessly to ensure a seamless transition to the online platform. In addition to setting up all the online WebEx meetings, he meets with each presenter to ensure their presentation will run smoothly and has setup the Eventbrite registrations for the meetings.  

 

Darryl Robertson joined the Photographic Guild of Nova Scotia in 2011. He has been the Guild’s Webmaster since 2013. In the summer of 2019, he completely revamped the competition portion of the website to deal with the latest WordPress updates which had rendered the coding for the online competition uploads obsolete. During 2020-2021, due to the necessity to moving the Guild’s Program and Competition Judging completely online his workload has more than tripled and he was an integral part of making the 2020-2021 season a success.

PDF Final Reports Will No Longer Be Sent To Entrants Via An Email 

 

As of September 1, 2021, a copy of the final competition reports will no longer be sent out to participating entrants.  

 

The decision is based on the following problems and issues:  

 

– our internet provider limits the recipients in a single email message to 50 to 60.  Therefore, we have to send out multiple email messages for each competition. 

 

– our competition@capacanada.ca and my email addresses have been flagged by some internet services as a bulk spam message. 

 

– individuals are tighten up their computer’s firewall to protect themselves against spammers and hacker.  Consequently, our bulk email messages are being blocked. 

 

– individual or clubs have changed their email address and have not updated their CAPA account 

 

The final report continues to be posted on our website.  

 

The final competition report can ONLY be viewed after you have successfully logged into our website.  Once logged in, you will select the Competition Reports option from the Competitions dropdown menu. By doing so, the report will be presented to you. 

 

To save the report to your computer, you will need to select the File/Save As PDF option on your internet browser and select the folder where the report should be saved to. 

 

 

CAPA Is Introducing Honourable Mention E-Certificates  

 

The CAPA Board of Directors has approved the introduction of our new Honourable Mention e-certificates.   Most international photographic society have already adopted these types of e-certificates.

Grand Vistas and Intimate Details by Colin Campbell is on Sunday September 19, 2021 at 7:30pm ADT. After retiring from teaching, Colin Campbell found that photography provided a creative outlet. From 2016 to 2019, he and his wife Jennifer travelled across North America in an RV. In his talk, Colin will share with us not only the “big sky” moments, but also the more intimate details of line, colour and texture that these landscapes can provide.

CAPA Club Services Award 2020

CAPA Club Services Award 2020 

 

 

Due to Covid 19, many of our in-person events were delayed or cancelled for the latter half of 2019-2020 and the entire 2020-2021 season. In July, Doug Leahy was presented with the CAPA Club Services Medal which was originally supposed to presented during our May 2020 Awards Banquet. 

 

A Life Member of the Photographic Guild of Nova Scotia, Doug joined the club in 1980. A long-time volunteer at the club, he was awarded the CAPA Club Services medal in part for his role as club liaison with the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park. Since 2003, Doug has led annual field trips to the wildlife park and he has been on the organizing Committee of the Winter at the Wildlife Park Print Exhibit since its inception, which includes removal and storage of the Print Exhibit in the off season at the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park.

Québec Zone Report / September 2021 

 

  • A Quebec Zone team under the leadership of Alain Dubeau is feverishly busy preparing for CCC2023. Accommodation and conference room facilities at Laval University, the main event site, have been confirmed. Translation logistics and the communication plan are well underway. The design of the website is underway, based on the work of our Moncton’s colleagues. 
  • Most of the clubs in the Zone are gradually resuming their activities, but we noted that several continue their regular meetings in virtual mode, at least until January 2022. 
  • Several participants and clubs want the resumption of the judging courses of photos of CAPA in face-to-face mode, possibly in the fall of 2021, and await confirmation to this effect from the national course managers. 
  • After a completely “animal” summer from June 6 to August 29, with exhibitions of animal photographs from internationally renowned Quebec photographic artists, Jacques-André Dupont, Jean-Simon Bégin and Jérémie Leblond-Fontaine, the Musée national de photographie Desjardins (MNPD) of Drummonville, proud partner of CAPA for several years, is doing it again in greatness with a varied and high-quality fall program, from September 11 to December 19, starring Marcel Morin “The beauty of a people – India and Sri Lanka ”, René Derome“ The hinges – Social and political photographs of Quebec 1965-1971 ”and Jean Grothé“ Twenty years of poetry ”. A must see ! 
  • A few photo clubs in the Quebec City area were able to enjoy outdoor exhibitions of their works thanks to a generous collaboration from the City of Quebec. This was notably the case for the SPAQ (Société des photographes artisans de Québec) which exhibited 23 photos of their members on the Dorchester Bridge throughout the month of August. An exhibition of photographs of Club Dimension members is also on the program in the fall at an outdoor site to be confirmed. 
  • Also in the Quebec City area, the Maison de la photo de Québec is proud to present 2 outdoor exhibitions of interest to the public: 
  • “Repérages” by the Kinomada collective, bringing together a twinning of 40 photos of artists from Namur and Québec, is installed on the Dorchester Bridge from September 1 to October 1, 2021. 
    • “Repérages” by the Kinomada collective, bringing together a twinning of 40 photos of artists from Namur and Québec, is installed on the Dorchester Bridge from September 1 to October 1, 2021. 
    • “Quebec and its wonders – Eugen Kedl, photographer”, offering 9 magnificent emblematic photographs of Old Quebec, is installed at the Jardins de l’Hôtel-de-Ville, from September 8 to 30, 2021.

Rapport de la Zone du Québec / Septembre 2021 

 

  • Une équipe de la Zone du Québec sous la gouverne d’Alain Dubeau s’active fébrilement à la préparation du CCC2023.  Les facilités d’hébergement et de salles de conférence de l’Université Laval, site principal de l’événement, ont été confirmées.  La logistique de traduction et le plan de communication sont en bonne voie d’élaboration.  Le design du site web est amorcé, basé sur le travail de nos collègues de Moncton. 
  • La plupart des clubs de la Zone reprennent progressivement leurs activités, mais nous avons noté que plusieurs continuent leurs réunions régulières en mode virtuel, au moins jusqu’en janvier 2022. 
  • Plusieurs participants et clubs souhaitent la reprise des cours de jugement de photos de l’ACAP en mode présentiel, possiblement à l’automne 2021, et attendent une confirmation à cet effet de la part des responsables nationaux des cours. 
  • Après un été complètement « animal » du 6 juin au 29 août, avec des expositions de photographies animalières provenant d’artistes photographes québécois de réputation internationale, Jacques-André Dupont, Jean-Simon Bégin et Jérémie Leblond-Fontaine, le Musée national de photographie Desjardins (MNPD) de Drummonville, fier partenaire de l’ACAP depuis plusieurs années, récidive en grandeur avec une programmation automnale variée et de grande qualité, du 11 septembre au 19 décembre, mettant en vedettes Marcel Morin «  La beauté d’un peuple – Inde et Sri Lanka », René Derome « Les charnières – Photographies sociales et politiques du Québec 1965-1971 » et Jean Grothé « Vingt ans de poésie ».  À voir absolument ! 
  • Quelques clubs photo de la région de Québec ont pu profiter d’expositions extérieures de leurs œuvres grâce à une généreuse collaboration de la Ville de Québec.  Ce fut notamment le cas de la SPAQ (Société des photographes artisans de Québec) qui a pu exposer 23 photos de leurs membres sur le pont Dorchester pendant tout le mois d’août.  Une exposition de photographies des membres du Club Dimension est aussi au programme à l’automne dans un site extérieur à confirmer. 
  • Toujours dans la région de Québec, la Maison de la photo de Québec est fière de présenter 2 expositions extérieures d’intérêt au public: 
    • « Repérages » du collectif Kinomada, regroupant un jumelage de 40 photos d’artistes de Namur et de Québec, est installée sur le pont Dorchester du 1er septembre au 1er octobre 2021. 
    • « Québec et ses merveilles – Eugen Kedl, photographe », offrant 9 magnifiques photographies emblématiques du Vieux-Québec, est installée aux Jardins de l’Hôtel-de-Ville, du 8 au 30 septembre 2021.

Quebec Zone  – January 2022 

It is with regret that the Quebec Zone has learned Pierre Vezina, Director of the Zone has stepped down. We thank you for your work during a challenging time of pandemic. Thank your for your vision, your initiation of  the planning of the Canadian Camera Conference, CCC 2023, to take place in Quebec City in 2023, and your love and commitment to promoting the art of photography and an example to us all. Thank you again.

C’est avec regret que la Zone du Québec a appris ton départ en tant que Directeur de la Zone. Nous te remercions pour ton travail durant une période difficile de pandémie. Grace à ta vision tu as initié la planification du Congres/Conférence Canadian Camera , CCC 2023, qui se tiendra à Québec en 2023. Ton amour et ton engagement pour promotion de l’art de la photographie et un exemple pour tous. Merci encore.

Update CCC 2023 Mise à jour

CCC 2023

The Quebec Zone will be pleased to welcome you at the beginning of August 2023 for the CCC 2023 in Quebec City.


A team has started planning the event which should include: social meetings, photographic outings, banquet, workshops and multiple conferences.


The CCC 2023 will stimulate participants of all levels in the evolution of their photographic art and allow you to share and establish new friendships.


The 2023 CCC will take place on the Université Laval site. Everything will be done to facilitate and ensure a pleasant stay.


This event, which is the CCC 2023, will only be possible with the participation and help of all the camera club of the Quebec Zone.

CCC 2023

La Zone du Québec sera heureuse de vous accueillir au début du mois d’aout 2023 pour le CCC 2023 dans la ville de Québec.


Une équipe a débuté la planification de l’évènement qui devrait inclure : rencontres sociales, sorties photographiques, banquet, ateliers et de multiples conférences.


Le CCC 2023 stimulera les participants de tous les niveaux dans l’évolution de leur art photographique, et vous permettra de partager et d’établir de nouvelles amitiés.


Le CCC 2023 se déroulera sur le site de l’Université Laval. Tout sera mis en œuvre pour faciliter et assurer un agréable séjour.


Cet événement qui est le CCC 2023 sera seulement possible avec la participation et l’aide des clubs photos de la Zone du Québec.

Post-Visualization is a photography seminar designed to help photographer in understanding the use of digital software tools to achieve control over the photographic image.  Presentation will cover controlling light and color, pushing post processing with a stylistic mindset, and thinking in black and white.  These concepts will be illustrated using Camera Raw and the NIK Collection of software by DxO.

NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Date: Saturday, June 25, 2022

Time: 2:00 PM Mountain Time (1:00 PM Pacific, 4:00 PM Eastern, 5:00 PM Atlantic) as a Zoom Meeting

Registration to attend is mandatory. Members must register no later than 24 hours before the start of the AGM.

All current CAPA Individual and Family Members are welcome to attend by sending their names by email to the Secretary of CAPA (secretary@capacanada.ca) who will send a Zoom invitation to each member in the week before the meeting.

CAPA Clubs: All current CAPA clubs can designate one representative to vote on behalf of the club. The club representative must register by sending their name to the Secretary of CAPA (secretary@capacanada.ca).

Those members not able to attend the Zoom meeting may complete a Proxy form giving their voting rights to the CAPA Secretary (secretary@capacanada.ca) who will record their vote accordingly at the AGM Meeting. The Proxy form is available at the bottom of this page.

The Election Slate will comprise the five Zone Director positions and the five Program Director positions. If you have experience and are interested in serving on the CAPA Board and would like more details, please contact the Nominating Committee Chair (past-pres@capacanada.ca). Nominations close on May 11, 2022.

Surrey Photography Club recognizes Natalie Coates

Surrey Photography Club recognizes Natalie Coates. Natalie has been a member of the SPC for 12 years. Soon after joining she became the President and was instrumental in bringing the CAPA judging course to Surrey. She wears many hats to keep our club ticking.

She is very active in promoting Competitions by being the Competitions Chair and advertises our Events over Social Media.

Natalie does so much for the Surrey Photography Club:

-Natalie helped form our website and continues with its maintenance
-She is dedicated enough to actively participate after moving to another municipality, across the river.
-She is optimistic, outgoing, friendly, supportive individual with inexhaustible energy, all while working at a full time demanding job.
-Natalie manages our Zoom account and hosts all of our meetings.

Natalie also took on our Grant Applications to the City when the past coordinator stepped down. It is because of these grants that we have been able to pay our speakers and invite guests free of charge which in turn has blessed us with new members.
