Windsor Camera Club – Future Event

The Windsor Camera Club is proud to announce the official launch of the Windsor-Detroit International Freedom FotoFest, a newly sanctioned salon of the Photographic Society of America (PSA). The exhibition arrives at a historic moment, coinciding with the upcoming opening of the new international crossing connecting Windsor and Detroit—a fitting backdrop for a competition built around themes of connection and shared vision.

Open to image makers worldwide, the salon invites submissions across the traditional categories of Color, Monochrome, Scapes and Nature, with all accepted entries getting the ability to earn official PSA points toward distinctions, honors and recognition.

The Freedom Award

In honor of the new international bridge, the FotoFest will present a signature Freedom Award, recognizing an image that most powerfully expresses the themes of connection, transition, and shared horizon.

The image need not depict the bridge itself. Photographers are encouraged to submit work that carries symbolic or emotional resonance—linking places, people, moments, or ideas across all boundaries through compelling visual storytelling and thoughtful craftsmanship. Unlike the scored categories, the Freedom Award is selected through curatorial judgment, honoring the photograph whose meaning, intent, and impact align most naturally with the spirit of the award.

The Judy Buchanan Memorial Scholarship

Proceeds from the FotoFest will fund the newly established Judy Buchanan Memorial Scholarship, an annual award presented to a deserving student pursuing studies in the media arts. Through this scholarship, the salon ensures that its impact reaches beyond the exhibition itself—investing in the photographers, filmmakers, and visual storytellers of tomorrow.

Scott Simons Awarded ACAPA

Scott Simons joined the Niagara Falls Camera Club (now the Niagara Association of Photographic Art (NAPA)) in 1983 and became a member of the Canadian Association for Photographic Art (CAPA) in 2023. Since that time, he has demonstrated sustained excellence, commitment, and leadership within the photographic community.

Scott has been an active and accomplished competitor in CAPA competitions, consistently supporting the organization through both participation and performance.

Beyond his competitive involvement, Scott has made outstanding contributions through volunteer service and leadership. He has served as President of NAPA from 2020 to 2026, guiding the club with dedication and vision. Over the years, he has also held numerous key positions, including Program Chair, Workshop and Outings Chair, Print Competition Chair, and Slide Committee Chair. His long-standing commitment to the broader photographic community is further demonstrated by his service as Canadian Treasurer for the Niagara Frontier Regional Camera Clubs (NFRCC) from 1993 to 2000 and again from 2018 to 2024.

In January 2026, Scott joined the CAPA Education Committee, where he continues to contribute his experience and insight to the advancement of photographic education at the national level.

Scott’s service has been widely recognized. He will receive a Life Membership Award from NAPA in April 2026. He is a two-time recipient of the George Butt Award for Outstanding Service (1986 and 2016), an honour named after the club’s founder. He also received the Stork Award for Outstanding Service in 1998 and the NFRCC Exceptional Service Award in 2023.

In July 2024, Scott obtained his CAPA Judging Certification and has since served as a CAPA Competition Judge. In addition, he has judged numerous competitions over the past 40 years, reflecting his respected standing and depth of experience within the photographic community.

In recognition of his photographic achievements, exemplary leadership, and sustained service to CAPA and the broader photographic community, Scott Simons is highly deserving of the Associate Honours Designation from CAPA.

Jason Duncan Awarded ACAPA

Jason Duncan joined the North Shore Photographic Society in 2007 and became a member of the Canadian Association for Photographic Art (CAPA) in 2010. Since that time, he has demonstrated sustained excellence, commitment, and leadership within the photographic community.

Jason became President of the North Shore Photographic Society in 2010 and served in that role until 2017. His leadership extended nationally when he served as CAPA Pacific Zone Director for the 2024–2025 season. He subsequently stepped down from that position to assume the role of Vice President of CAPA. During the 2024–2025 season, he also served as Chair of the BC/Yukon Inter-Club Speaker Series.

Jason achieved competitive success early in his CAPA involvement, earning a Gold Medal in the 2013 CAPA Nature Competition. After a brief hiatus from competition, he returned in the 2024–2025 season with renewed distinction, receiving multiple Merit Awards and Honourable Mentions for his submitted images. He was also selected to represent Canada in the Four Nations Competition in 2015, 2016, and 2017 — a significant honour recognizing his photographic excellence on the international stage.

Beyond competition, Jason has made meaningful educational contributions to the photographic community. He has presented workshops to several clubs on “Mastering Seascape Photography” and delivered a CAPA presentation on Backup Strategies, sharing valuable technical knowledge with fellow photographers.

Jason is also an active judge for several clubs and leads a Special Interest Group on Drone Photography, where he provides guidance on rules, techniques, and technical considerations specific to drone imagery.

In recognition of his photographic achievements, exemplary leadership, and sustained service to CAPA and the broader photographic community, Jason Duncan is highly deserving of the Associate Honours Designation from CAPA.
