Bio et portfolio - Directeur de la zone atlantique
Alicia Barrett is a published photographer, educator, and visual storyteller based in Newfoundland and Labrador, where the rhythm of the ocean and the quiet of the wild continually shape her work. Her photography is an exploration of connection—of fleeting moments, soft light, and the unspoken bonds between people, nature, and time.
In her portrait work, specializing in newborn, maternity, and family photography, Alicia is drawn to the delicate in-between moments—the curl of a newborn’s hand, the stillness of anticipation, the warmth of connection. Her approach is gentle and intentional, grounded in safety, trust, and the belief that the most powerful images are often the quietest ones. Her work has been recognized through multiple awards at both national and international levels.
She holds multiple international accreditations through APNPI in newborn posed photography, family and newborn, maternity, and little sitters, and is a safety-certified newborn photographer. Alicia is also an accredited member of the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC), with accreditations in Animals, Maternity, Nature, Newborn, Ornithology (Bird Photography), Portrait (Children and Infant), and Wildlife.
Beyond the studio, Alicia finds herself drawn to the unpredictability of the natural world. Through her wildlife work and her platform *Woods, Wilds & Waters NL*, she embraces patience—waiting, watching, and learning to see. Her images are shaped not just by what is in front of the lens, but by respect for the land and the life within it. Deeply connected to conservation, she uses her photography as a quiet form of advocacy, encouraging others to slow down, to notice, and to care.
As an educator, Alicia shares her knowledge through both in-person and online workshops, creating space for photographers to grow, explore, and find their own rhythm within the craft. She believes photography is not only something we learn, but something we come to understand over time.
She is also honored to volunteer with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep (NILMDTS), offering remembrance photography to families navigating loss—work rooted in compassion, presence, and the understanding that photographs can hold what words cannot.
Additionally, Alicia is a children’s author, using wildlife and storytelling as a way to introduce young audiences to themes of education, conservation, and respect for the natural world. Through her books, she hopes to inspire curiosity, empathy, and a lifelong connection to nature.
As a CAPA board member, Alicia is committed to supporting the photographic community, nurturing creativity, and championing photography as both an art form and a way of preserving what matters most.
