CAPA’s Eligibility Criteria

By virtue of submitting an image, the photographer agrees that:

  1. the submitted image is their original work and must not contain the elements created by someone else;
  2. they possess the copyright for this image;
  3. if the copyright or other intellectual property rights of any third party are infringed by any image provided by an entrant, then the entrant will indemnify and hold harmless the Canadian Association For Photographic Art and any associated sponsors against any claim for any losses arising as a result of such infringement.  The Canadian Association For Photographic Art accepts no liability for any breach of copyright by an entrant;
  4. the submitted image does not violate or infringe upon any Canadian law or regulation nor any material that could be conceived as a Canadian criminal offence;
  5. CAPA is permitted to publish the image in the Canadian Camera magazine, or on the CAPA website or use the image at any time for CAPA exhibitions, publications, promotions and for educational purposes. Entry into any CAPA competition or exhibition implies acceptance of this practice;
  6. they will comply with all conditions of the Eligibility Criteria and competition details;
  7. the submitted image or substantially the same image has not previously been recognized as receiving a CAPA award such as: a CAPA medal, Certificate of Merit, Merit Award Ribbon, Honourable Award Certificate or Honour Award Ribbon;
  8. they will NOT enter an identical or simultaneously the same images or one that is substantially the same in both the ‘individual‘ and ‘club‘ components of a CAPA competition;
  9. the image will not contain any watermarks, name of the image or name of the photographer;
  10. the decision of the competition judges are final and no appeal will be entertained;
  11. CAPA reserves the right to disqualify an image before, during and after the ‘day-of-judging;’ and
  12. CAPA reserves the right, on a decision made by the CAPA Board of Directors, to suspend a photographer for a set period of time and/or revoke a CAPA Award.
  13. CAPA and corporations providing prizes are not in any way responsible for any claims or liabilities related to the outcome of a competition or the violation or infringement of any Canadian law or regulation.

Image Specifications: submitted JPG image must comply with the following:

Dimensions: Maximum horizontal size: 1400 pixels and Maximum vertical size: 1050 pixels

Note: One of the dimensions must be exactly the maximum allowed size and neither dimension may exceed the maximum pixels for that dimension

Colour Space: Should be sRGB

Colour Accuracy: Strongly recommend that you calibrate your monitor to ensure colour accuracy from your monitor to the image projected to the judges

Maximum filesize: 1.8 MB

Note: Online system will check for the above parameters and if they are not met then your image submission will not be accepted and you will receive a message explaining which parameters are not acceptable.

Filenames And Titles

Restrictions On Filenames:

You may include your name in the filename but it is not necessary

Do NOT use only numbers (i.e.-123456.jpg)

Do NOT include \, /, ‘, “, !, ?, &, or @ in the filename

Do NOT use extra punctuation, such as “…..”, “.” (other than .jpg)

It is not necessary to prefix the filename with a sequence number

Do NOT use the same filename for more than one image in a submission, such as “untitled.jpg” or “flower.jpg”

Please refrain from using non-English characters in a filename, such as (â, ê, î, ô, û, é, à, è, ù)

Acceptable Filenames:

The Wild Rose.jpg

Joe_Blow-The Wild Rose.jpg







Restrictions on Image Titles which may be displayed to the judges:

May NOT contain the club’s name or the photographer’s name

Do NOT include \, /,  in the title

Please refrain from using ALL CAPITALS

Please refrain from using non-English characters in a title, such as (â, ê, î, ô, û, é, à, è, ù)

Acceptable Titles:

The Wild Rose

Gorgeous panoramic landscape

Get Outta My Face!

Is there something on my head?
