Logging into this site

Q: I can't log into this site. What should I do?

A: To log into this site, you must have a valid userid and password, and to get a valid userid and password, you must first register on this site. Registration is simple and free, and you only need to do it once. You must hold an individual or family CAPA subscription in good standing in order to be able to register. You will need to provide your member id, and your first name and last name, exactly as they were entered in the Karelo database when you joined CAPA.

Q: I can't remember my Karelo member id. What should I do?

A: Contact our Executive Secretary, Mike Breakey, or, alternatively, our Past-President, Jacques Mailloux, and they'll be happy to send it to you.

Q: The system keeps telling me that there is mismatch between my first name and/or my last name. What should I do?

Galleries

Q: How do I submit an album for inclusion in one of the site's galleries?

A: The process is very simple. You send your pictures to our President, Rick Shapka. Your pictures will be reviewed, and, if accepted, posted in the appropriate gallery.

Q: How many galleries may I submit?

A: You may submit only one gallery, but your gallery can have as many pictures as you wish.

Competitions

Q: Why are the competitions only open to Canadian residents?

A: The competitions are only open to Canadian residents because the prizes donated by our sponsors are a form of marketing, and their mandates cover marketing only within Canada. Prizes cannot be shipped to an address outside of Canada, or to a P.O. Box.

Q: Can I join if I'm in Canada on a student visa?

A: Judging takes place shortly after the competition ends, and prizes are distributed within days from the winners being announced to our sponsors. If your residential address in Canada will be valid until the prizes are distributed, then you can participate in the competition.

Q: What are the steps to submit images to the CAPA 2013 Annual Digital Competition?

A: You first need to register on the CAPA Website, if you haven’t done so already. Next, make sure you log in to the Website. Once logged in, select Competitions from the pull-down menu on top, and then double click the fourth thumb entry: CAPA 2013 Annual Digital Competition. Click on “I want to join a competition online”, next on the flashing yellow hand. This will take you to the submission page, where you can now select and submit your images.

Q: How can I know if my submissions to the CAPA 2013 Annual Digital Competition have been correctly uploaded?

A: From the CAPA Website, while still being logged in, return to the competition submission page: your entries will be visible. You can also replace your submissions right up until the competition deadline.

Q: When trying to upload my submissions, I get a message that my session has expired and that I need to log out and log in again.

A: Things to look at are software firewalls, which are often part of anti-virus/anti-malware software programs like Norton, McAfee and others. If you have a router/modem setup, either as separate devices or built into a single unit, they frequently incorporate a hardware firewall that is usually enabled by default. Having more than one firewall can cause havoc with Internet communications, and can block you from accessing some sites. Look into your software settings to disable the software firewall. You may also try to temporarily disable the pop-up blocker in your browser to determine if that is the source of the problem. As well, clear the history and all cookies in your browser settings. If you are using Internet Explorer 10, try switching to compatibility mode (Tools/Compatibility View Settings), or try a different browser like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. If all else fails, try uploading from a different computer.
