Ice is a 4 year old female Whippet that has already amassed a very respectable record of racing wins. She is shown here in full stretch mode, in her racing jacket at the WRBC race event in Roy Washington. The image was shot on a cloudy day, ISO 1000, f5.6, 0.00eV, 115mm, with my Canon 1D X camera.

I am a global traveller and Nature photographer who explores the world in search of new wilderness adventures. While I love – and photograph all things Canadian, I have a special passion for Africa and have travelled there many times to capture the magic and mystery of that continent.  Recently, South America has opened new adventure horizons as I explore that continent, with recent trips to Ecuador, Brazil and the Galapagos. I recently canoed the Amazon to photograph Jaguars in the jungles of Brazil.

I am the Past President of CAPA, The Canadian Association for Photographic Art, and hold several major CAPA distinctions for my photography and dedication to the Art including CAPA’s highest honor for photographic achievement, FCAPA and Hon. FCAPA. I am the Chair of CAPA Learning courses, a CAPA Certified Judge, and teach the CAPA Judging Course in cities across Canada and abroad.  My interests include all genres of photography, with an emphasis on Nature and Sports. My work can be seen at www.allenbargen.com

Bio:
Serious amateur photographer is probably the best category to place me
in. Been interested in photography since I was nine years old and my
mother gave me a plastic camera from the corner drug store that cost
about $10.00. A lot of money for what it was back in 1966.

Recently delved into digital photography after many decades of using my 35mm
film camera, a Minolta X700, and was having a hard time getting film
with lower ISO to shoot with. I figure I deserved a new camera since
the last one I bought (Minolta X700) was back in 1982, Now shoot
Olympus E510. Mostly with the kit lens but also acquired some adapter
rings so that I could use my old Minolta lens. This made the camera
more spousal friendly!

My photos concentrate mainly on nature. Landscapes and flora mostly
and have recently played around with HDR, long exposure and panoramas
using multiple stitched photos. Stitching enables me to make huge
panoramas without the need for a super wide angle lens. There are
always new things to learn and even after many years of taking photos
I learn something new almost every day. New techniques (to me anyway)
and with the advent of the internet and digital photography, new
styles that are more readily available to a much wider audience than
just our family and friends.
